I heard a story once as a young boy. It told of the little wren who tucked itself under the wing of an eagle. When all the birds sought to crown a leader among them, it was decided that whichever could fly the highest would take the crown. At the point where the little wren heard the eagle proclaim itself victorious, out popped the wren and gently fluttered above the now tiring eagle. In Irish folklore the wren represents the trickster and various actions have been invented to address this reputation, both in honour and in fear.

My interest as an artist has always been cognizant that the routes to success may take many forms. I have never much sought to intentionally develop or improve any one skill or craft but instead to employ each as a manner of articulating a larger truth. This is a truth that develops in contact with its parts and so too a pursuit that extends each starting point. On this path I have lived and loved, travelling throughout the land to perform, present and deliver my own own brand of storytelling. From critical to creative, this work has bridged a journey from the page to the gallery, often occupying each while bringing personal and public into direct relationship. But, and as with which we are all now familiar, where the event ends, its place is entered into an ever-event. Histories of the personal succeeded by the institutional have come to feed a definably corporate story via privately owned online platforms. So small a gesture as it may be, it is then simply the retaking of a place online which this website project aims to portray. A fool’s journey from beginning to end, but with much to learn if you are so willing. Please enjoy this first installment, ‘Speculative Fiction: The Game’ has been a means for me to engage with the story and vision language that illustrates myth and bio, fusing as a second entity that could possibly hold space for unknown outcomes. Yours as much mine or anyone else’s!
